UNLV President Neal Smatresk today said it’s “probable” that he’ll be selected the next president of the University of North Texas, after that school’s board named him the sole finalist for the job. But he says he’s taking nothing for granted until the final decision is made Dec. 12.
Smatresk said he’s rejected the solicitations of headhunters during his seven years at the helm of UNLV, but changed his mind recently when the Texas job arose. His grandchildren live about 30 minutes away from the campus, and his daughter also lives in the Lone Star State, he said.
“That’s a huge part of the pull,” Smatresk said.
“It’s wonderful to have this opportunity, but I don’t want anyone in Las Vegas to think I don’t love and respect the Las Vegas community,” Smatresk said.
