That’s the conclusion you might draw from the congressional scorecard of Keep America Safe, the group formed by former Vice President Dick Cheney‘s daughter, Liz Cheney and warmongering magazine editor William Kristol. Keep America Safe rated each member of Congress using letter grades, and, big surprise, all of Nevada’s Democrats scored Fs, while of the state’s Republicans got As.
The string of voters considered by Keep America Safe stretch back to 1991, so it’s curious that some of Nevada’s representatives didn’t do so well (including U.S. Reps. Dean Heller and Dina Titus, who were only elected in 2006 and 2008 respectively). But Harry Reid, Shelley Berkley and John Ensign all dutifully voted for the Patriot Act, the Iraq War resolution and other odious relics of the George W. Bush administration.
(Indeed, the group itself seems dedicated to repairing the Bush-Cheney war legacy, which has suffered some tarnish after its central rationalization — the fictional WMD program of the Saddam Hussein regime — was shown to be false.)
But, as ever with Cheney, total agreement is called for, and the group is unforgiving for members of Congress who deviate on its roster of House and Senate votes. And the index has already become a campaign-trail tool for pro-war candidates to use in bashing their opponents, as Politico reports today.
One final note: I visited the group’s online store, and while I could not buy a copy of the Constitution that the Keep America Safers often so conveniently ignore, I did find a bumper sticker of note:
